My Sixth Sense

My sixth sense is the ability to remember long bits of sound a long time after I hear them.  It's something I've noticed with memorization of Scripture or poetry or language study.  If I speak it out loud I can repeat it more easily.  I have a "tape recorder memory," sort of like a photographic memory.  It's useful for all sorts of study.   I can still hear sounds that I've heard aloud in my mind a surprisingly long time later.

Then I noticed that I can tell which numbers were dialed on a phone by the tone, even if I only hear it on speed dial.  When did I notice this?  Hmm.  Once a long time ago, I noticed that the little red light on our phone answering machine was on when no one was on the phone.  What did this mean?  It meant that someone was listening on the answering machine microphone to conversations nearby the answering machine.  In fact, I had read how to turn on our answering machine microphone remotely in the instructions that came with the phone.  So, I put the answering machine in a back room.

Not long after that I was on the phone and noticed that after a while I would hear a click.  My spidey senses were tingling.  Someone had been listening in and hung up when the conversation was not about the subject they wanted to hear about.  This started to happen on a regular basis.  I suspected I had run afoul of "the Democrats" as they had been tapping the lines of the local Republican headquarters.  At the time I was the secretary of the local Republican Women. Those rascally Republicans!  What did they imagine I would give away in my conversations?  Complaints about how the treasurer refused to use our funds to reimburse me for stamps?

Then in one of these weird supervised conversations I suddenly heard someone accidentally dial a number on their speed dial.  Although it was eleven digits and it went by quickly, I was still able to recall the number just from hearing it on speed dial, and ended my conversation and called the number.  It was the cell phone number to the state police department.  This was not a number one could find in any directory.   I put this number in my "little black book."  So I knew the state police were behind the spying on my phone.   But why?  Well, sometimes Republicans are called "far right wing extremists" by far left wing extremists.   Therefore it probably had something to do with being Republican.   According to  Biden,  all Republicans are "far right wing extremists" and pose the greatest terrorist threat to this country.  Well, this is no country for old men.

Recently I was in the bank waiting in line, when someone from the bank decided to open the vault.  They entered a "secret" numeric code to unlock the door of the vault, and I was surprised that the lock beeped out the numbers to the code in loud tones.  Well well well.  I now knew the security code to unlock the bank vault.   Why would they have made a lock with an audible security code?    But the bank is safe from me.  I'm just not a bank robber.  It's just that there are probably other people with this odd ability that could also tell you the code to unlock the vault if they heard it in digital beeps.  The vault might as well not have a lock.

What other secret codes will I hear in the future?
