I saw the Great Speckled Bird yesterday.  

I went out the back door to give the birds some birdseed, and the Great Speckled Bird was there!  Instead of flying away he ran in a panicked way, darting hither and thither, and finally zipping behind the shed.  

He was larger than a blue jay but smaller than a swan or buzzard.  In fact, I've never seen a swan or buzzard in the backyard.  I guess he was about the size of a chicken, with a long neck, a red cap, and a top knot, and he was speckled.
