John 15

John 15

Written from memory

1. I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away, and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4.  Abide in me, and I in you. As a branch cannot bear fruit, except it abide in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5. I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same shall bring forth much fruit, for without me ye can do nothing.

6. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered, and men gather them, and cast them in the fire and they are burned.

7. If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will and it shall be done unto you.

8. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit, so shall ye be my disciples.

9. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you. Continue ye in my love.

10. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

11. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

12. This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you.

13. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14. Ye are my friends, if you do whatsoever I command you.

15. Henceforth I call you not servants, for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth, but I have called you friends, for all thing that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

16. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that you fruit should remain, that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

17. These things I command you, that ye love one another.

18. If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19. If you were of the world, the world would love his own, but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

20. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

21. But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

22. If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin, but now they have no cloak for their sin.

23. He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

24. If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin, but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

25. But this cometh to pass that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

26. But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.

27. And ye also shall bear witness, because ye were with me from the beginning.

The sunspot cycle is usually 11 years long.  During a solar maximum cycle there are more sunspots and the average temperatures are warmer.  During a solar minimum there are fewer sunspots and temperatures are cooler.  These are photos of sunspots on this day for today and a few recent years.

My Carnivore Diet Explodes

A few weeks ago I decided to go on the Carnivore Diet.  How did I come up with this idea?  I had some help.  I have watched Dr. Eric Berg's thoughts on diet.  I soon learned that his ideas must be taken with a grain of salt.  Especially ideas on buying ingredients for whatever he recommended that you eat, or supplements you should take.

Dr. Berg recommends eating seven cups of green leafy vegetables a day, especially kale.  I bought some kale one day.  OK.  I'm not eating that.   But I did eat seven cups of salad.  However, there was no miracle in my health.  He also recommends, now at least, the keto diet.  I followed the keto diet.  I have done well on the low carb diet, and it is definitely a good idea not to eat processed food.  Therefore, while one eats a low carb diet, one must eat seven cups of vegetables and not cross the line of around 20 carbs per day.  Hmmm.....  That's lifting the bar.

Here's link to one of his videos on making healthy bread:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsl5ENgZnr0

Problem.  This bread is high in carbs, higher even than an ordinary loaf of white bread.   He dismissed this by saying one should not eat a lot of it.  A little was OK.  But a little white bread is OK for most people too.  ??

Eat this, don't eat that.  Then a flipflop.   The problem was, I was out money on ingredients and supplements that I couldn't use.   I also was losing the war on weight.   I stopped trying to diet to lose weight a long time ago, since it always ended in gaining weight and feeling so horrible it was scary.  So not losing weight wasn't a deal breaker, but gaining weight is.

Then Youtube decided Frank Tufano would be right up my alley.  Oh, I like Frank Tufano.  He has diets too.  At the moment he advocates the Carnivore Diet.  This was interesting.  He looked healthy.  I was a bit skeptical, but what could go wrong?

Added to all this was everyone and his brother recommending intermittent fasting.  I have done fasting, usually not "intermittent." Usually a couple of days here and there, maybe longer.

In the meantime, Dr. Berg had a new video on fiber.  "Fiber may be making you fat," he said.  Oh?  Didn't he say load up on fiber?  Seven cups? The carbs didn't matter, only "net" carbs?

How was I going to stop eating lettuce?  What did that leave?  That left the Carnivore Diet.  So I tried it.

Things went OK I guess.  I enjoyed the diet and didn't miss the big salads too much.   I wasn't sleeping as well though.   I had actually tried a zero carb diet once before that was all meat.  I had insomnia then too.  I have insomnia sometimes anyway.

I decided to do intermittent fasting with the diet, and then decided to fast every other day, because Butter Bob Briggs said that doing this for three weeks would improve insulin sensitivity.  That sounded good.

How was my diet going?  No plant food, no food at all every other day.  Was I losing weight?  No.  OK, on the day I did eat I ate only in the morning.  That did it.  I was losing weight then.  On the fasting days I slept like a baby too.

Oh whoa whoa whoa.  New video!  This video was from ABC Science in Australia on High Intensity Interval Training.  This must be when the time bomb started ticking.

I then added HIIT (high intensity interval training) to the diet and the resistance training I had been doing.  This caused a problem that I didn't like to do it when I was fasting, so I was limited in the days I could exercise.  Plus I had begun blacking out anyway.

I exercised with all my might, getting my pulse up to 160 beats per minutes for 30 seconds on my little stepper thingy, and then resting until I caught my breath and then doing it again for four intervals.

I liked this workout.  It really cleared out my lungs and left me feeling like I was tingling.  The tingling would last the rest of the day.  Plus it didn't take too long.  They said that this type of exercise was good for the mitochondria which increased longevity.

I soon saw gratifying muscles in my arms and legs which I hadn't seen in the past.  Usually exercising for months does no appreciable change in muscle mass for me.  Yay!  I was finally increasing muscle mass.

The videos on HIIT led to videos on longevity which led to videos on NAD.  What's that?  Well, I'm not sure.  NAD will improve mitochondria.   It's in our cells.

And then came the final straw before my whole diet/exercise plan finally blew up.   I became interested in NAD so I watched a video on that subject.  Youtube then exploded with ideas on more NAD videos.  Before long I had learned that niacin stimulates NAD production.  But it was best to take NMN.  If you liked you could just take Nicotinamide Riboside, another form of niacin.  Why not?

I googled nicotinamide riboside and found it easily and bought some.  Soon my supplements arrived.  The bottle recommended taking two,  which would be 250 mg of niacin.  I vaguely wondered what the RDA for niacin was.  The name of my new supplement was Niagen.

I took the two capsules.  I felt OK, but there was the tingly feeling again.  I took some the next day and gave two capsules to my mother, thinking it would be good for her.

Things went OK.  On day three I took my two capsules of Niagen again.  I gave two to Mom also.

Then later on in the afternoon I took two more Niagen.  At that point all hell broke loose.  Scary thing began to happen.  My head felt like there was an ice cube right in the middle of it.  My body felt on the verge of total collapse.  Niacin did this?

That night I was unable to sleep, and felt terrible too.  What was happening to me?  I didn't take any more supplements of any kind.  Meanwhile my mother told me she didn't feel well.  And she felt tingly, too.   Of course, I didn't give her any more Niagen either.

Hadn't I seen a comment on a video asking why there was no warning on a video about taking niacin?  What had I thought when I read that?  I thought, "He says it could cause de-menthylation.  What could that be?  I hope that doesn't happen to me.  Surely if it were a serious thing there would be some limit to the amount of the dose of niacin a company would sell."  I didn't give it much thought really.  I read someone say something about choline.  What?  Now I'm a chemist? I thought.

Soon I got my chemistry lesson.  Of course it was in the form of a Youtube video.  "Why You Should Be Careful Taking Niacin Ribosome" by Chris Masterjohn, PhD  :

Some people, and not a few, have a genetic defect that interferes with the metabolism of folate called MTHFK.  I think.   Here's another video that makes very good points about this problem:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oelxNhiw9TQ&frags=pl%2Cwn

This is Ben Lynch, ND, discussing MTHFK, from which he also suffers.  "Your vegetables should be a carrier for your fat.  That's brilliant. If you're really into the ketogenic diet that's great.  But you need to have a delivery vehicle, and that delivery vehicle is your vegetables. If you're not eating your leafy green vegetables you're not getting your folate."

So if you're not eating your vegetables you are not getting your folate.  What can ramp this whole thing up to critical levels?  Oh, taking high doses of niacin.

Taking high doses of niacin, and also ramping up NAD and mitochondrial levels, increases the need for folate, and those unfortunate people with MTHFK are not operating on all four cylinders with folate.  How many people are like this?  Around 40% of the population.  Folic acid actually exacerbates this:

An so my life has temporarily come crashing down.  New plan.  I ordered 5-MTHF.  I'll put a link to an article on that.  It's folate in the form it's actually used in the body.

https://aspirenaturalhealth.com/5-mthf-the-magic-b-vitamin/

I'm also waiting for my TMG, whatever that is.  It is supposed to help with methylation.  At the moment I've been clinging to dear life with my brain shutting down on neurotransmitters and feeling weird weird weird, even though I stopped taking Niagen or any other supplement.  I've been afraid to exercise for fear of depleting my folate any further by stimulating NAD and mitochrondria.  I had an herbal supplement that I did take, and soon felt myself feeling like I was in a free fall.  This has been a horrible experience.

My mother also complained that she wasn't feeling well after taking Niagen.  This could be because she too has MTHFK.  Yikes.

Who knew?
