Is This a Joke?

Have I ever seen a hurricane form the way that Katia has formed?  No.  About two days ago I saw that there was a thing off the east coast of Mexico with winds of about 30 mph that they were calling "Thirteen."  I never heard of it before that.  Thirteen didn't form off the west coast of Africa and then intensify on its way across the Atlantic.  It just popped up in the Gulf of Mexico.  When it suddenly intensified they named it Hurricane Katia.  It now has winds of 80 mph.  That's just not how hurricanes work.

Irma has lost some intensity, with winds of 175 mph.  But then there is Hurricane Jose, which formed in the proper way crossing the Atlantic and now has winds of 90 mph.
